One afternoon, a few 1st graders surprised me and handed me acrostic poems of my name. Such interesting observations that they have picked up and wrote about me. But I must say, I agree with every single one of them. Have a look for yourself and know that your name can mean a lot of things! 

Hello GCFS! 

Happy first day back to school for the second semester! 
Whether 2017 came in with booming fireworks and an elaborate celebration or a stay-at-home quiet reflection, it is here and we welcome it regardless. Over the course of years, we are subjected to headlines splashed across magazines, media, and advertisements that say something along the lines of 'new year, new you,  'find your new body' ‘out with the old, in with the new’ and the list goes on. It is endless in how it offers myriad ways of finding a reset button for all to seize the new year with courage and carrying no such thing as regrets or remorse from the previous year.

In the midst of the norm as the new year is here, this thought came to mind. How long will we set our eyes and mindset on renewing our physical bodies? Sure, we all long for health and prosperity, but as His word tells us in Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. So what exactly does that mean for us?
 
Some food for the soul, rather than fixating on a new body, habit, or goal to set resolutions that will inevitably fade and die out mid-year, why not value the things that really matter. Which is connection. Begin connecting to the things that matter such as your own heart and the people that you love. It is in the connection, where we grow, where we learn, and where our lives actually start to change. This connection is only possible when we position ourselves in Christ. and we see it time and time again in our theme verse, abide in Him so that you can bear much fruit. Apart for Him, you can do nothing. 
 
So here is it. GCFS, I encourage and pray that you will discover in 2017 ways to disconnect and unplug yourself from the things that are a temporary fill which mask what is valuable and genuine. Rather to be connected and engaged with your surroundings. Simply being intentional in wearing the mindset of ‘being renewed’ will be your priority and not chasing after the worldly resolutions. Richness shouldn’t be limited only in the physical, but in the spiritual as well. If gaining Christ means losing the world, then we need to fix our desire and hunger on what is forever true and unchanging. God himself. Think about that. What does that look like for you?

Hello GCFS! 
In this Thanksgiving season, one thing I am absolutely thankful for is MEMES. I am filled with gratitude that I live in a day and age where memes exist and that it is a thing. The perfect place where my new found love of creating memes was in full display at our secondary department fall retreat- Come Follow Me. Last week, all our secondary department students experienced deeper and richer friendships by spending the week with one another in worship, prayer, small groups, fellowship, activities, and meal times. It gave us space and a platform to expand our hearts for one another as a family. Praise God! For He did wonders and planted many seeds of hunger to know that Christ is our everything and He is more than enough! 

So to bring our family some joy, I created a GCFS Wall of Meme for all to see and admire the unique and
​one-of-a-kind face expressions that our students/teachers have. Enjoy!

Though as a Christian school we don't celebrate Halloween, we always keep things fun and exciting around here by scaring each other. Students know the way to my heart and I know the way to theirs. Hugs, kisses, and sweets all in one visit. I always enjoy the mini exchange that takes place to warm my heart during this cold season. 

In this day and age, everything is so fast. Fast food, fast cars, fast access, fast technology, and the list goes on. Everyone wants immediate results, responses, and expects nothing less in this generation. We all want that instant gratification. Including myself. Although, I'm thankful to be living in this time where technology is so advanced, I do miss the times where things weren't as accessible and there was a sense of waiting and longing that made the wait so much more meaningful. Without such a time of waiting, would the answers or results be as rewarding? These thoughts started crashing in on me as I recently received letters from the 1st grade class. Ms. Lee has been teaching her students the format of writing friendly letters and I was honored to be picked as their first practice. As I sat in my office reading these letters, I found myself excited to write them back and witness the faces that would receive my letters in return. When least expected, a time of reflection came knocking on my door through these handwritten letters and I was thankful for it.

GCFS, let's remember to be thankful for everything today because today will not come back. We have to learn to enjoy today's blessings for it will tell stories for tomorrow.

Hello GCFS Family! 

It has been about 2 weeks since we've started this school year and all I can say is that I am truly amazed to witness God's peace and providence over our school. God has continually showed up and provided in ways that are unimaginable and His timing is so perfect. Before the school year began, the leaders held prayer meetings and one day I felt the Lord encountering me saying, "Don't strive. Just allow my peace to rest in the deepest corners of your heart and there you will find me. Through me, there will be comfort and rest." And God has been doing just that over the past 2 weeks. 

One way that God has released and marked this year with His peace is how he provided Pastor Jamie Cha to speak for our Elementary Chapels weekly. She is a woman of faith and strength that knows the power of living a life of obedience by being on her knees. It is such a  great joy and delight to partner with her this year as she has selflessly volunteered her time, energy, and resources to raise up this generation in bringing the gospel to our little ones. 

Of course for our very first Elementary Chapel, our GCFS prayer warriors blessed her by praying over her. I find joy in knowing God will teach us and expand the walls of prayer as GCFS prayer warriors will rise up and go deeper in being rooted in His word. We welcome you Pastor Jamie and we bless you with our prayers! We trust that God will be your super natural strength as you pour into many people and we will bear MUCH fruit as a school through your powerful messages! 

YES and AMEN to the things that God is and will do throughout this year! Let GCFS prayer warriors never cease in worshiping the one true God and lifting Him high for all to hear and see.

GCFS Family! 
I want to take time to honor a man who really defines Jesus Christ. He displays such wisdom and humility that he lives out to be an extension of Jesus' hands and feet. His actions and heart speak volumes and moves all hearts to love Jesus more through his generosity and care for GCFS.

During our teacher's devotions this morning, we were all taken by surprise when he presented this precious handmade gift for every teacher. He began working on this project since February and crafted all of our favorite Bible verses onto a picture he created of Jesus. What is so unique and beyond special about these frames is that when placing all frames together in order, it is a picture of Jesus' face. All teachers can testify that we were extremely touched by this act of kindness and will be remembered forever.  

GCFS teachers! Wherever you go, remember you were all part of God's plan for this school year and God is the author and perfector of our faith. He completed his promise and used all of us to impact His Kingdom here at GCFS.

Hello GCFS Family! 
C.S. Lewis once said, "Prayer does not change God, it changes me."  I believe that these past 10 months of our school year was a year that God touched all the hearts at GCFS to grow deeper in prayer. Our chapel times were the place that gave each student and teacher the platform to train in prayer for each other's needs and to speak encouragement over one another. Prayer never ceased throughout this school year and I am simply amazed knowing how BIG our God is and how little our problem seemed when faced before our one true Creator. 

During our last Elementary Chapel, we had the opportunity to pray for our students and teachers. It has truly shifted our focus to see the greater things that God values which is, family becoming closer in His Kingdom and at GCFS. Through it all, we were able to worship and pray together as a family because of the prayers that were answered and are still being answered!

GCFS Royals, continue to extend your prayer hands and fingers to one another as we finalize our last week of school! Allow Philippians 4:6 to be a reminder each and every day. Write it on the tablets of your heart and memorize it.  
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Happy Friday GCFS Family! 
I don't know if you've wondered the same, but I always look through the list of 5 love languages (words of affirmation, touch, gifts, acts of service, and quality time) and wonder what were they thinking? Where is FOOD? For those who know me, I can't say no to food. For those who don't know me, the secret is out. Now you are all in the know. The way to my heart is food. I LOVE food. There's no denying it. Any opportunity that I can get to share this love language of mine, I do it! Simply because I find such joy in giving food and savoring the moment of students faces brightening up. Not to mention food is a great pick-me-up.

So here is a shout out to Ms. Paik's 2nd grade class. They warmed my heart and blessed me today by being overjoyed at the sight of ice-cream and went as far to write me a thank you card. I love that GCFS shares my love of food and ice-cream!

Hello GCFS Family and Friends! 

We’re finally experiencing some warmth and relief from such a cold and brutal winter. Personally, winter seasons are so beautiful to me. Snow and wintry foods that keep us feeling cozy add onto the beauty. But mainly, it is the barrenness that makes time stand still so beautiful. For instance, trees look barren and still. It is easy to focus on the emptiness and absence of life of a tree when it fails to be green or full with life. But, ask anyone. A tree is not dead during the winter. It is very much alive. The roots are alive and are grounded deeply that even the tree is confident it is still alive which makes it so beautiful to me. 

I compare trees to our seasons in life. We may be in specific seasons longer than we anticipated and seasons that are especially a time where we experience loneliness, delay, idleness, or a period where we are hidden just like the trees. But, it is in this season where we experience barrenness to find ourselves. To recognize our surroundings, take time to notice our friends and family, and rest without having to check the time. 

GCFS, I don’t know what season you are in, but I pray that you will be like a tree and recognize that you do have life and your roots can go deeper. Don’t just stay on the superficial level to get by and have this season be over with, but ask and begin to notice what your purpose and response should be right now. 

Spring is just around the corner and it’s time to turn over a new leaf and hope for another season of depth and growth.
